Tae Kwon Do

Taekwondo, Tae Kwon Do or Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art, which is famous for its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. The literal translation for tae kwon do is "kicking," "punching," and "the art or way of". It is a martial art that attacks or defends with hands and feet anytime, anywhere without any weapons, and the purpose of physical training is important, but it also has great significance in fostering the right mind through mental armament.

Taekwondo was founded by General Choi Hong Hi after World War II, when the South Korean Government asked him to create a hand to hand fighting system for the South Korean Army. General Choi came up with a system of teaching the military and it wasn’t long before it gained popularity and today, Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial arts in the world.

Taekwondo isn’t just about fancy punching and kicking. There is a science behind this martial arts on why you punch or strike in a certain way. For example, the emphasis on speed and agility is a defining characteristic of Taekwondo and has its origins in analyses undertaken by General Choi. Choi based his understanding of power on bio-mechanics and Newtonian physics as well as Chinese martial arts. In this way, the technique of punching and kicking in Taekwondo creates the highest possible force / impact while also conditioning the practitioner so that he /she doesn't get hurt in the process.
